July 3rd – Freak eye accident

I know I’m not the most luckiest guy in the world. Relatively speaking. Because I know I am blessed with the greatest parents ever one could wish. I have the best family and two beautiful son that I love more than anything in the world.

It’s just that sometimes when bad luck strikes you, it’s hard to endure. 18 years ago I had an eye accident that left me injured pretty bad. To this day it’s not recovered and never will. I am left with a condition called antimetropia, which means that I have a huge difference in myopia in both eyes. This prevents me from wearing glasses as I have 14 dioptree difference in the eye. That’s huge and not suitable for glasses.

Long story short, my right eye is messed up.

This week end, we had planned a pic-nic day with some friends at the park. While waiting for them I went to play Frisbee with the kids. As I wasn’t paying attention for one second, I got a direct hit to my left eye with the Frisbee.

The pain was intense and as I curled up in pain I couldn’t believe my only good eye got hit. What where the odds? The park is huge, and of all places I got hit directly in the eye.

Blood started filling up the eye but luckily nothing else was damaged. As I went to emergency to have it checked I was still thankfull that it seemed fine and it turned out to be fine.

In these moments of distress, I wish I had someone to lean on to. I guess I don’t have for now. I wish I will. For now, all I know is that I must be strong.
